Debbie Bresette

Founder Bastrop County Family Crisis Center, Bastrop County Cares

Debbie Bresette created the Family Crisis Center in Bastrop County in 1980 with a small group of women, the organization grew over the years to cover 4 rural counties in Central Texas. Over the years, the organization grew to offer crisis services, legal services, emergency shelter and transition housing to survivors of family violence and sexual assault. Prevention services included educational classes to 17 rural school districts and intervention to offenders of family violence. In 2004, Debbie transitioned to United Way for Greater Austin where she led the organization during its transition to a Community Impact United Way and expanded its programs and philanthropic efforts to focus early childhood, financial stability and health. After her retirement, a mayor and the County Judge in Bastrop asked her to create a non-profit that would expand the ability for a diverse group of citizens to tackle local problems that are greater than any one organization can solve on its own. This new public/private partnership is called Bastrop County Cares.
