A Healthier WE is Dedicated to Addressing Critical Issues across the Health Ecosystem

Modern health systems are dynamic structures operating in a continuous state of change, influenced by multiple interrelated factors. Organizations at the leading edge of health delivery are aware that minimalist perspectives are insufficient for the task of integrating complex systems and services. From this realization, the Healthy America Ecosystem Model has been initiated as a key way of conceptualizing the health landscape and understanding its inherent mechanics.

This framing serves as the inspiration for A Healthier WE – a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to addressing critical issues across the health ecosystem. AHW has a six-year history of convening, collaborating, and committing stakeholders, stemming from a series of health conferences hosted by Stanford’s Bill Lane Center for the American West, Stanford University School of Medicine, and A Healthier WE (AHW).

The recognition of the continuum of persistent challenges impacting health across the United States motivated AHW’s Founder/CEO, Phil Polakoff, MD, MEnvSc, MPH, Consulting Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, to launch an organization under the principle that “in these times, when ‘I’ is replaced with ‘We’, even illness becomes wellness”. At the ecosystem level, this entails holistic, integrated enterprises dealing with all sectors in society.

Leveraging the Many Strengths of Stakeholders across the Health Ecosystem

Growing from the organization’s grounding and expertise in the health ecosystem, coupled with its extensive experience with the particularities of systemic change, A Healthier WE is structured to leverage the many strengths of stakeholders across the health ecosystem and focus them on the field’s most intractable problems. AHW recognizes the groundswell of support for an ambitious initiative of broad enough scope to frame and face the central issues that affect the viability of the health ecosystem – and in turn, life in America as we know it. Our efforts include projects in Las Vegas, NM; Central Appalachia; Salt Lake City, UT; and numerous publications on health and wellbeing. AHW is continuing its momentum with an ambitious charrette-style initiative, the Healthy America Summit in Omaha, Nebraska, April 21-23, 2025.

AHW takes as its mission the assembly of civic, business, labor, faith, healthcare, and citizen leadership at the community, county, state, regional, and federal level to address critical issues in health from a 360° perspective. To that end, A Healthier WE is organized around four critical health action areas pertaining to fostering a healthier America. These action areas, based on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s New Action Framework, inform AHW’s objectives:

  • Making Health a Shared Value
  • Fostering Cross-Sector Collaboration
  • Creating Healthier, More Equitable Communities
  • Strengthening Integration of Health Services and Systems

Most importantly, AHW will help define initiatives needed to achieve solution-oriented objectives to transform the health ecosystem. Join us as we create a healthy America ecosystem!

Innovating for the Future

In an era where a fully functioning healthy ecosystem is a critical cornerstone for societal well-being, A Healthier WE (AHW) and The Healthy America 2025 Summit – April 21st-23rd at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska – stand as a beacon of integration, collaboration, and innovation in the field of health and wellbeing. AHW presents a new, dynamic model of health that emphasizes interconnectedness and the common good, showing that addressing health issues is built on a foundation of holistic approaches that bridge community, healthcare systems, and innovative practices.
